Fundraisers step out to smash target for mental health charity

Two fantastic local fundraisers set out to raise £200 for Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind - but managed more than £2,300 so far!

Bob and Alyx Bardsley (pictured) set off at 3am from their home in Denton last Thursday (17 December) to walk the 50-plus miles to Southport to support the local mental health charity.

Some 100,000 steps and 17 hours later, and with a little bit of first aid, they made it!

Alyx said: "We were thinking in the lead up to Christmas and the lack of funding due to coronavirus, we wanted to be proactive and support this local charity now when they need it the most. I’m literally so overwhelmed at how much we have raised.

"Thanks so much everyone for your support and motivation keeping us going! If you still want to give anything the link will be open for another week https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Alyx-Bardsley”.

Jason, who looks after fundraising at TOG Mind, said: "Alyx and Bob have done an amazing job in completing the challenge but also raising much needed funds for local mental health support. After a tough year, it’s really great to be able to end on such a positive note and everyone at TOG Mind is hugely appreciative of all the help and support provided. Local funds raised are always used locally.”

With the festive season upon us, anyone wishing to access help or support over the next week or two can contact Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind on 0161 330 9223, visit the website at https://www.togmind.org/home to find out about opening times and out of hours support, or link in on social media at facebook.com/TamesideOldhamGlossopMind
