Festive concert to celebrate local talent and support Scanner Appeal

The line-up of professional singers and local talent is complete and it's the countdown to the Scanner Appeal Christmas Concert which premieres on Friday (18 December) at 8pm on YouTube.

We can’t get out to enjoy concerts this festive season but fear not… stars from the world of TV, pop, folk and country music have joined forces with teams from Tameside Hospital to put on a virtual festive treat for everyone to enjoy.

Britain’s Got Talent winner, Mossley’s Jon Courtenay, has written a special song for the show, and joins last year’s winner Colin Thackery, the 90-year-old Chelsea pensioner who performed in the summer’s Sing for the Scanner concert and says he’s delighted to be asked to sing again.

Chloe Jones, from Dukinfield, is celebrating the release of her latest single ‘Damsel’  and she sings this, and exclusively for the concert, her arrangement of a well-known seasonal classic.

And the song tipped to be a contender for a Christmas hit It’s Love on Christmas Day featuring vocalist Keedie Estelle, will also be performed.

The hospital’s Clinical Coding Team will sing a medley of Christmas favourites and porters and staff take their hats off in a tribute to their Full Monty 2020 calendar, produced and sold in aid of the Scanner Appeal.

The concert will be hosted by Tameside Radio’s Alex B Cann who presents the station’s breakfast show and Saturday Super Scoreboard. He says being asked to get involved has been a huge privilege.

Karen James, Tameside and Glossop NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive, says the concert will be just the tonic we need after many challenging months and thanked everyone for taking part.
