The family of a teenage girl from Tameside who died at a caravan park whilst on holiday has paid a heartfelt tribute to a 'loving daughter and granddaughter'.

Police were called to a report of a 'domestic disturbance' at Ty Mawr Holiday Park in Towyn, North Wales, last Saturday afternoon (31 July), where a 15-year-old girl, later named as Amanda Selby, sadly died.

In a short statement issued via North Wales Police, Amanda's family, who also released an image of the teenager, said: "Amanda was a loving daughter and grand-daughter – she was caring, thoughtful, liked to help others and very much loved. She will be very sadly missed.

"We ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time."

Police say the family is continuing to be supported by specialist officers.

Amanda's school Droylsden Academy, where she was a Year 10 pupil, said the school family is 'devastated by this awful news' and they plan to remember Amanda with a tribute 'when the time is right'.

A statement on the school's website reads: "Our school is saddened to have received the tragic news that one of our students, Amanda Selby in Year 10, has lost her life whilst on holiday with her family in Wales. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with Amanda’s family at what is an incredibly difficult time.

"Our school family is devastated by this awful news. Amanda was a lovely student and she will be sorely missed by students and staff. Clearly, many members of our school community will be affected by this loss and we will be offering support to those who need it in the weeks and months ahead.

"We will also plan a tribute when the time is right so that we can remember all that Amanda brought to our school."

A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Amanda's death - the cause of which hasn’t been given.

Matthew Selby, of Windermere Crescent in Ashton, who is accused of killing his sister, appeared at Mold Crown Court via video link on Wednesday (4 August).

A provisional start date of 28 February 2022 for the trial was set by the judge during a short hearing, where no plea was entered.

North Wales Police has asked the public not to speculate about the incident on social media as this is an active investigation.
