Dave Sweetmore column: Why the time is now for Alias Kid

Alias Kid.

Tameside Radio presenter Dave Sweetmore profiles the next guests on his show, which are a 'unique band' and 'the definition of rock 'n' roll' who have been backed by some famous faces...

Shaun Ryder described them as ‘a great song-writing team and all stand up comics.’

While Alan McGee, the man responsible for the likes of Oasis, Primal Scream and The Libertines, told the world ‘they have the potential to be the next big Manchester band’. He signed them after just three live gigs.

Alias Kid have built themselves a huge loyal and committed fan base over the years, producing no nonsense rock ‘n’ roll anthem after anthem, and a live stage show that is 100 per cent in your face and stunning.

Supporting the likes of Happy Mondays, Sleaford Mods, The Coral, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and many more, plus constant touring of their own, has seen them gain fans and notoriety worldwide.

They have taken several breaks over the years, sometimes without warning, but this leaves the excitement of what comes next in the Alias Kid world even more intriguing.

In the band’s early days, they toured heavily as ‘The Vortex’, the guitarist at the time was Oasis legend Bonehead, before changing their name to Alias Kid, and in 2015 releasing their debut album ‘Revolt To Revolt’.

They are a unique band in the way that they do what they want.

They don’t follow the crowd, do things their own way, party harder than most other bands in Manchester put together, and make their own rules.

They are the definition of rock ‘n’ roll! They are also a great set of lads who deserve to go as high as the music world will allow them. ‘Revolt To Revolt’ produced some of the greatest songs of the time, classics such as ‘Dirty Soul’, ‘Smoke and Ashes’, ‘Messiah’, ‘Zara Henna’, ‘Revolution Sometime’ and ‘Shot Through’. I name these songs, but in all honesty, every track on the album was a classic anthem.

After a generally quiet couple of years, apart from the release of ‘All Gone Wrong’ early last year, the classic line-up of Maz Behdjet, Sean O’Donnell, Colin Ward, and Chris Livesey, are back this year stronger than ever, with a stronger intention of sticking around, and taking the band up a level.

They are now joined by American guitarist Tony Long, a loud, hard rocking guitarist from New York City, who is also the band’s new producer.

They have a brilliant powerful new song about to be released, ‘Through The Night’, which when I first heard it in the band’s studio knocked me into the next room, and then they will support Black Grape at their O2 Ritz Manchester gig on September 2, before gradually announcing future plans for the band.

Alias Kid are back, louder, stronger, more raw, and with bigger plans than ever, and it is so good to see, hear, and feel.

They have upped their game, and with Tony Long now involved, they have perfected their sound to how they’ve always wanted it to be, and now have the music world ready to do what they want with.

It’s been a long time coming, but Alias Kid’s time is now. Alias Kid join me this Monday night on Tameside Radio from 7pm.
