Dave Sweetmore column: Ryan's return in Stalybridge

Ryan Jarvis.

For his latest column, Tameside Radio's Dave Sweetmore profiles singer songwriter Ryan Jarvis ahead of his appearance on Monday's show and at Zeros Bar in Stalybridge next week.

For almost a decade, Ryan Jarvis has been one of the North West’s favourite singer songwriters.

From his own headline shows, to support slots with his heroes Courteeners, his anthemic songs such as ‘Rosie’, ‘Carry You’, ‘Thought Of You’, and his most recent release ‘I Think I’m Falling In Love’, have ensured wherever he plays, his forever growing fanbase is not far behind.

Growing up, and realising he wasn’t going to follow in his brother’s footsteps playing football, Ryan picked up a guitar and dedicated all of his spare time learning to play.

Coming from a family of music lovers, often going to gigs with his parents and grandparents, he wasn’t short of inspirations.

His family’s heroes included Abba, Elvis, The Beatles, Traditional Irish Music, and most notably The Hollies and The Everly Brothers, and it was the stunning harmonies of the latter that he was most drawn to.

With this in mind, it’s easy to see why Ryan Jarvis’s own music is so catchy, and lovable.

During the last year, with the pandemic putting a halt to most things, he’s not been as musically active as he would have perhaps liked, but instead he’s been more than happy spending his time with his fiancé and young son.

But with normal life starting to resume, we can expect to hear some new Ryan Jarvis music, and plenty of gig announcements, before the end of the year.

Next Thursday night, June 24, Ryan will be playing live from 7pm at Zeros Bar in Stalybridge.

It’s the launch night of my new weekly indie night at the venue, and I’m delighted that Ryan has agreed to come and play at the first one. It will be all seated and Covid safe.

It’s free entry and we would love to see all of you there, supporting Ryan, and also supporting a great new venue.

Before then, Ryan will be joining me this Monday night at 7pm on my Tameside Radio show to talk more about his life in music, and future plans.

You can listen to Dave on Tameside Radio 103.6FM on Monday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. Click here to subscribe and catch up on previous shows.
