Daisy Dewsnap: Reckon you'll be hooked by this series

Our regular columnist, secondary school student Daisy Dewsnap, reviews one of Netflix's latest offerings - the taught series 'Reckoning'.

As soon as I started watching this series, I knew I would be hooked.

Based in a small coastal town, the story explores the lives of those affected by a serial killer referred to as the ‘RRK’ who committed a spree of murders many years ago.

The community are still trying to come to terms with the horrors that took place in such close proximity to their own homes.

But when a local high school girl goes missing, the town begins to question whether the ‘RRK’ is back and it is only a matter of time before many more people’s lives are in danger.

The mini-series follows the lives of two men in particular, both of whom are linked to the case and are intent on protecting their families as they set out on a journey of reciprocated destruction.

Reckoning, which can be found on Netflix, is a riveting and thought provoking watch.

It delves so much deeper than the average murder mystery and we are able to empathise with even the most villainous of characters. We are shown why they do what they do and despite being horrified at their actions it is difficult not to slightly sympathise with them – which is very often not the case in storylines like this one!

It makes you question who really is to blame and there are many clues and hints given throughout the episodes from which you can interpret in many different ways.

The characters were all played by such talented, convincing actors.

I saw Aden Young in ‘The Disappearance’, another series that I watched a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve never watched Sam Trammell acting in anything before.

But I was incredibly impressed by both of their portrayals of the characters and the layers that they added to the roles.

There are 10 episodes in all, each one lasting around 45 minutes. This series is definitely one you won’t want to miss and I am so excited for the next season to be released. Especially after that unexpected ending!
