Curzon land winger

Curzon Ashton have confirmed the signing of Danny O’Brien.

Danny, a right-winger, from Worsley, came through the youth system at Aston Villa before moving back to the North West with Wigan Athletic, where he went on to make his senior debut in the EFL Cup. Whilst at Wigan he also had loan spells with Wrexham and Chester.

From Wigan Athletic, O’Brien then moved to Finland to spend spells with Kraft and SJK. He made 40 appearances in his time in Finnish football before moving back to the UK where he signed for fellow National League North outfit, Alfreton.

An England U17 International, Danny was part of the same group that included Tottenham’s Harry Winks.

Speaking to Curzon’s media team, Danny said: “I played against the club towards the end of last season and noticed Will Ryder  (first team coach)was here. I’ve known Will for a few years as I was at Wigan for him and known the way he plays. I loved the size of the stadium and how great the pitch was, and just the whole facilities. After speaking to Will and Mark Bradshaw, it was a no brainer to join.”

“I went through the scholarship scheme at Aston Villa, before joining Wigan when I was 19. I had loans at Chester and Wrexham, playing alongside anther Curzon signing in Rob Evans.”

Questioned on how he describes himself as a player, Danny said: “I’d like to say I’m an old fashioned winger who likes to get the ball in the box. I like to get past my man, get a cross in, provide assists and also score a few goals.

“I want to be playing regular games for the club as it has a lot of ambition. The players that we’re bringing in proves that, so hopefully the players gel, we get it right, we all buy into it, and we’ll have a good season.”

In other player news, last season’s Under 18s captain Luke Merrill has also signed a deal with the first team.
