Community skips to help keep Smallshaw green and clean

Councillor Mike Glover, MP Angela Rayner and Councillor Dolores Lewis.

Residents in the Smallshaw area of Ashton will now be able to dispose of excess household and garden waste via large community skips following a successful campaign.

Having noticed a build-up of rubbish and litter across the community, Councillor Dolores Lewis - alongside fellow councillor Mike Glover and Ashton-under-Lyne MP Angela Rayner - said she pressed housing association Jigsaw Homes to take action to keep the area looking green and clean.

The large community skips will be available on four days over August:

  • Wednesday 4 August from 9.30am to 11.30am: Rowley Street, Connery Crescent and Sheard Avenue
  • Wednesday 11 August from 9.30am to 11.30am: Greenwood Avenue, Smallshaw Lane, Holebottom and Platt Ave
  • Wednesday 18 August from 9.30am to 11.30am: Timperley Road and Alt Road
  • Wednesday 25 August from 9.30am to 11.30am: Broadbent Avenue and Oakfold Avenue

Cllr Lewis said: “We take great pride in our community here in Smallshaw, so I got on to Jigsaw Homes when we saw rubbish starting to accumulate across the area.

"To ensure Smallshaw remains green and clean, residents across the local community will be able to bring excess household and garden rubbish to the community skips.”

Anyone who needs help to the skips due to mobility issues is asked to call 0161 331 2000 for assistance.

Residents are being warned that fridge freezers, tyres and gas bottles cannot be accepted.
