Community groups appeal for your green token votes to scoop cash

Three local community groups are celebrating after being shortlisted for Asda Foundation's digital Green Token Giving vote for a chance to receive a £500 donation.

Ashtree Leisure Garden Society, 4th Dukinfield Rainbows and 2nd Stalybridge Scouts have all been shortlisted and are in the running to receive £500 with both runners-up receiving £200. Customers now can vote online for their favourite good cause at www.asda.com/green-tokens.

The voting in-store with the green tokens was paused during the pandemic, but the Asda Foundation has launched a digital version, meaning customers can now vote online from the comfort of their home.

The customer vote will remain live until 31 July and groups will receive their donations between August and September after the online votes have been counted.

The Ashtree Leisure Garden Society is based at the Ashtree Lane Allotment in Droylsden.

They support local schools and have an indoor classroom to use during bad weather.

The entrance to this workshop needs the disabled ramp repairing and they are hoping to win some of the funding from the Green Token Scheme to help fund the work.

The 4th Dukinfield Rainbows has been supporting their members throughout the pandemic with Zoom activities and resources, but this is quite costly and they would love to secure some money to help them facilitate these activities.

The 2nd Stalybridge Scouts are looking for funding to improve their kitchen facilities to engage the Scouts with some cooking sessions to develop life skills.

Colette Regan, Asda Ashton Community Champion, said: “We are so excited Green Token Giving is back online and really proud to be able to continually support the local charity groups in our area.

“At Asda, we’re always thrilled when customers chosen good causes benefit from these vital funding boosts and we get to raise awareness of what they do.”

This year, the Asda Foundation is committed to giving more than £1 million to thousands of local good causes in the heart of Asda communities through digital Green Token Giving.

If you would like to nominate a local charity or good cause for future Green Token Giving votes, visit www.asdafoundation.org/how-to-apply and fill in a Nominate a Cause Form.
