College student lands at Gleneagles

Tameside College bakery student Holly Drain has brought her dream career to life, after landing a job at Gleneagles Golf Club.

The former Fairfield High School student (pictured left) has been offered a permanent position as a pastry chef with the golf club in Auchterader, Scotland.

Gleneagles is a five-star hotel and golfing resort, which has hosted international competitions and a G8 summit of world leaders. 

Its name is well known across the globe and the club’s facilities include three golf courses, nine fine-dining restaurants and a spa.

While completing a two month paid placement with the club, Holly impressed staff with her hard work and positive attitude so much that she was invited to work at the club on a permanent basis, once she completes her course with the college.

As a pastry chef, Holly will be working in the resort’s busy ‘Glendevon’ tea rooms, as part of an award winning team of bakers, serving pastries, cakes, sandwiches and scones.

Holly said: “I am really pleased to be offered this position with Gleneagles. When I was working with them over the summer holidays I felt really welcome and all the staff helped me to learn and develop my skills. I’d like to thank my teachers at Tameside College for their support and helping me to achieve my goals.”

Stuart Withington, bakery teacher at Tameside College, said: “Holly has made the college proud with what she has achieved. 

“Gleneagles is well known as a place of excellence and I am very pleased that her hard work has paid off. Hopefully, this sets an example to other students, showing how far they can go if they give 100 per cent.”
