Brothers walking 150 miles for our local NHS heroes

Two brothers from Tameside who have been embarking on a 150-mile sponsored walk are getting close to the finishing line.

Conor Hand, 24, and younger brother Rory, 13, both have several disabilities – autism, hypermobility, SPD and anxiety.

They are walking the five-mile route from their house in Guide Bridge to Droylsden Academy, where Rory attends, and back each day for around 30 days.

It’s to say ‘thank you’ to our local NHS healthcare heroes, with the hope of raising £1,500 for Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust – where Conor works.

Giving us an update on how the challenge is progressing, Conor said: “We had a scary few weeks in lockdown, made worse by our disabilities, so we needed something to alleviate our stresses from the situation.

“This was to be a 150-mile sponsored walk over the summer months in aid of Tameside Hospital’s Covid-19 appeal, especially because I’m an employee of the Trust.

“Rain or shine, we’ve both been out and we’ve done a total of 101 miles so far. Rory and I have both agreed this walk has helped us to take our heads away from the frightening experience of lockdown.”

They have so far raised over £400 and if you would like to donate, you can do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/conor-hand1.
