Big party in the park in Stalybridge to thank NHS

Stalybridge Festival Committee say it is looking forward to hosting its 'Stalybridge Big Party in The Park' event in Cheetham Park this weekend.

The event on Sunday (22 August) is being staged by the committee to make up for the disappointment of having to cancel the Stalybridge Carnival for the last two years.

It starts in Cheetham Park at 11am and includes live entertainment from 1pm.

Entertainment will include a Fun Dog Show and live music and a large family fun fair, hot food stalls and a good number of trader and community stalls.

Organising secretary Ian Cochrane said: “The focal point of the arena will be a five metre high Maypole which we want to use as a symbol of hope and renewal as we emerge from the Covid pandemic with NHS staff encouraged to attend for our public show of support for the fantastic work they have done in the last year.”

There will be a two minutes round of applause for the NHS and other key workers led by the Civic Mayor of Tameside Cllr Janet Cooper at 1pm.

Ian added: “This is an opportunity for everyone to come together, show our appreciation to the NHS and have a great day of family fun.”

For animal lovers the Fun Dog Show will start at 1.30pm.

Anyone who would like to enter their dogs into the competition will just need to turn up and register on the day. The entry fee is £2 per category and there are five categories, these being:

• Dog with the Loveliest Eyes,

• Dog with the Waggiest Tail,

• The Cutest Puppy,

• Best Presented Dog,

• Best Rescue Dog.

The winner of each category will also be competing for the title of Best Dog In Show.

Ian added: “There will be lots of activities for all the family to have a great day in the Park and help us raise extra funds towards next year’s carnival.”
