Ashton's Indian community deliver for the homeless

Ashton's Indian community have been donating more items for local good causes and food banks.

During the first lockdown Shree Bharatiya Mandal, Indian Association Tameside, appealed to its members for donations specifically for food banks, with more than £2,500 of items being donated in total.

Now, under a new initiative launched by Manhar Taylor, the Indian community centre opened its doors for the local community to drop off food donations for the food banks and other good causes.

Manhar said: “We are pleased to say this has been very successful, and we have received donations and food items and money.

“We made our first donation to Sandwich Angels of Hyde last week, with our latest donation going to Emmaus in Mossley.

“We would like to thank all the donors for their kindness and generosity during this difficult time and are hoping for continued support to help others.”

Shree Bharatiya Mandal (SBM) doors are open from 9am to 12.30pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

You can find the centre at 103 Union Road, Ashton.

Anybody who would like to donate can drop off any items of tinned or packaged food to pass onto local under-privileged people and charities in the local community. No meat products are accepted.

Please drop your items in the box provided in the foyer area.
