Ashton schoolboy wants to raise more than £4,000 for Kenya expedition

A pupil from Great Academy Ashton is raising money for a four-week trip to Kenya next year.

Thirteen-year-old Louis Sowler is trying to raise £4,330 in order to go on a school expedition to Kenya.

Louis' fundraising efforts include climbing Mount Snowdon, and going around the local community carrying out gardening with his dad.

As well as this, Louis did 12 Christmas fairs over three weekends, and also spent Boxing Day delivering leaflets for local businesses. He describes his activities as "fun" and says he "enjoys the challenge".

Louis said the trip feels like a good opportunity as he wants to help the community over in Kenya. He will do this by teaching the local children English, building houses and meeting the local Maasai tribe.

When the group get to Kenya, they will be travelling around different areas as they do various activities. Louis said he is nervous as he has never done anything like this before, but is still excited.

As it is the first time Louis has ever done anything like this, Louis' mum, Kaye, has expressed her anxieties over the trip: “I am nervous for him going as it’s so far away but I am so proud of him. He’s got a very adventurous spirit and loves to help people.”
