The sessions start at Waterloo Park community garden this September.

Open to all ages and abilities, the sessions will run every Friday from September 3 to October 8.

An introductory session also takes place August 20.

Friends of Waterloo Community Garden and Operation Farm have organised the get-togethers after the success of their seed starters project, funded by Jigsaw Homes. The project began in the pandemic and saw families receive seeds in the post to grow at home.

Now covid restrictions are easing, people can meet at the community garden again.

Fleur Miller is running the Gardening for Wellbeing sessions for Operation Farm, she added: “Waterloo Park has a lovely garden and lovely community, it’s a place to be proud of. The sessions there allow people to meet new friends and enjoy gardening again, especially after being so isolated during lockdown.

“You don’t have to be an expert gardener to come along, it really is for everyone regardless of physical fitness.”

Those that take part will plant, grow and harvest their own produce. In the past, the food has been used for community meals, cookery courses and donations to the homeless.

The Gardening for Wellbeing sessions are funded by Action Together and aim to keep the community connected.
