All the fun of the circus in Hyde

Roll Up, Roll Up! The Big Top arrived in Hattersley and Hyde over the school holidays.

It was part of the ‘Fuel 4 Fun’ holiday camp sessions organised for children and families, providing free events and nutritious meals.

Fuel 4 Fun sessions have been organised throughout the school summer holidays by Tameside Council, Active Tameside and the Department for Education.

The circus events were led by Circus Sensible from Mossley.

The entertainment and workshops were staged outside at Active Tameside’s Longdendale site and also in Hyde Park.

Councillor Brenda Warrington, Executive Leader for Tameside Council, said: “It’s been great to see the children enjoying themselves and learning new skills, especially after the tough time they’ve had over the last 18 months and in spite of the weather.

“I am very pleased that the Longdendale councillors were able to access the Holiday Activity and Food Programme funding, provided by central government in response to COVID-19, to put on these fantastic events.”

The children were able to watch a performance from the circus acts, and then given the opportunity to try out some of the skills they had seen, such as plate spinning, juggling and diablo.

Circus Sensible provided the entertainment and Active Tameside supplied each child with a packed lunch and a ‘goodie bag’ to take away.

The experience was repeated in Hyde Park over the bank holiday weekend, this time young people from Newton being invited to take part, with this event organised by Cllr Philip Fitzpatrick and the Longdendale councillors.
