Tigers reach Cheshire Senior Cup final

Hyde United made it to their first Cheshire Senior Cup final since 1997 on Tuesday, with a 3-0 thrashing of Cheadle Town.

Visitors Hyde came close to scoring after just 18 minutes when Joe Bunney’s near post header clipped the top of the crossbar.

The Tigers then took the lead just minutes later when Sonny Whittingham powered the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to put his side ahead.

The away side then doubled their lead early in the second half when forward Ayo Quadri got himself on the scoresheet, finding the bottom corner from the rebound after his initial shot was blocked.

The match was then put beyond any doubt just past the hour mark when Ryan White slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to put Hyde three up and all but seal their place in the final.

It could have been four just before the end when Joe Bunney’s header looked as though it was destined for the back on the net, but the defender was denied by a fantastic goal-line clearance.

Nick Spooner’s men were then able to see the game out comfortably and set up a clash between themselves and either Crewe or Congleton Town in the final.

Next up for The Tigers in the league is a crucial home clash against second-place Warrington Rylands this weekend.
