Hyde Produce Remarkable Late Equaliser

It was a fantastic game on Saturday at The Giant Axe as Hyde produced a stunning equaliser with the last kick of the game to rescue a point away at promotion-chasing Lancaster City.

The match started brightly for Lancaster who pressured the Hyde defence from the beginning. Shortly after the half an hour mark, this continuous attacking pressure paid off after Hyde defender Luis Morrison completely missed a clearance for the sharp David Norris to pounce on before coolly slotting his shot past Luke Mewitt into the net.

As the first half was brought to an end, Lancaster were ahead and posed the stronger attacking threat, but Hyde were far from beaten.

In the opening 10 minutes of the second half, opening goal scorer David Norris had two great chances to increase the Dollies lead and put the game to bed. But it was Hyde who scored the next goal to equal the score to 1-1. A long throw by the visitors was aimed towards the City box, the ball was flicked on by Chris
Sharp for Dan Turner to poke the ball past Sam Ashton in the City goal.

It was then Lewis Fensome who restored the Dollies lead with an accurate header past Mewitt in goal form a City corner.

As the last few minutes of the match counted down, heartbreak for the Dollies struck when Hyde’s Liam Tongue struck past Aston with the last kick of the game to rescue a point for Hyde.

This last-minute strike ended the match with both sides sharing the points but it also stretched Hyde’s winless run to ten games in all competitions but that point may have felt like a win for Hyde.
