Fitzsimmons guides Hyde to victory

Hyde avenged their early season defeat with a comfortable six wicket win at Cheadle on Saturday.

ECB Cheshire County League Premier Division:

Cheadle 119ao

Hyde 123-4

After winning the toss, Hyde skipper Tom Partridge chose to field first in what appeared to be bowler- friendly conditions.

However it was Cheadle who got off to a great start, scoring at more than four runs per over against the Hyde seamers.

It forced Partridge to turn to his spinners and it was a decision that turned the game Hyde’s way.

From 48-0, the home side slumped to 60-4 with Elliot Young and Danny Cranmer taking three of the four wickets. Jake Hill claimed the other, removing Dan Adams, who top scored with 38.

Cheadle rallied slightly, adding 30 for the fifth wicket, but when Young removed Adam Dooler (12) it started another collapse and the Stockport-based side were all out for just 119, with Cranmer taking 4-27 and Elliot Young 3-18.

It never looked enough runs to trouble the Hyde batsmen, but the early loss of Keshana Fonseka, for eight  with just 13 on the board, was a setback they didn’t need. Then when Partridge (10) fell with the score on 39, it required an old pair of hands to steady the ship.

Enter David Fitzsimmons. An accomplished batsman with years of experience, he proved the difference as he guided Hyde towards their target.

Despite losing Luke Young for 30 and James Duffy (8), Fitzsimmons proved to be a class above as his 48no took Hyde to victory.

This Saturday sees Hyde entertain Didsbury.
