Derbyshire County Cup Final preview: Glossop North End Community Club v Tintwistle Athletic Reserves

Glossop North End Community Club will play Tintwistle Athletic Reserves on Tuesday 26th March, 7.30pm at Surrey Street Glossop in their first Open Age Final since creating a First Team in 2023.

They have scored eight goals on their way to the final without reply but this young new side will face an experienced and well-established side in Tintwistle Athletic who have been previous finalists.

Glossop North End Community Club First Team play in the Manchester Football League Division Two and after a tough start to the season have started to adapt to senior football and put together some impressive results, They are looking to move up the table with games at Hollinwood and Cavaliers to follow shortly.

The team is made up of a number of players who have played for the club from under 6, under 18 players as well as squad members returning to the club where they played junior football.

The coaching team is made up of Ben Mills, Alex Carroll, Luke Sheldon and Jason Adshead who have varying levels of experience at this level but have enjoyed the journey to date.

Manager Ben Mills has said in advance of the final, "We set out in June 2023 to establish a firm pathway for players at 16+ to gain experience in adult football and develop themselves, we started with no players really and have worked hard to establish a playing group that commits to our football philosophy and the values of the club. "We want to excite, be creative, and enjoy the game, but showing respect and supporting our community is at our core.

"We entered the Derbyshire County Cup again just to gain experience but are delighted to be in the final in our first season, we have already exceeded all expectations and though we are very much the underdogs on the night we will give our very best. "It has not been an easy route to the final, we have faced challenges along the way as a group, however most importantly we have respected the history of the competition, its integrity and shown what a young side playing exciting football can achieve.

"We have made friends along the way and I know have already received support from other clubs in the area as we aim to go one step further on Tuesday night but what will be will be, we will enjoy the occasion and show the town of Glossop the talent that lives and breathes football on its streets!"

The team will be proudly supporting Mentell on the evening, who are shining a light on Men's Mental Help and the support available, men its time to talk.
