Budding footballers in schools tournament

Pupils from Simmondley and Padfield primary schools were triumphant in a football tournament featuring schools all over the borough.

There were 42 primary schools from across the High Peak taking part in the competition at Glossopdale School in Hadfield, just before the half-term holidays.

And the Year 6 boys from the Pennine Road school in Simmondley (pictured) came out on top in the boys category, with New Mills finishing second and Buxton Juniors third.

The school said in a statement: "Congratulations to each and everyone one of them. We are all so proud of their achievements and can't wait for the exciting next stage. Thank you to all of the players and the supporters."

The Mini Soccer Finals were hosted by Glossopdale School in conjunction with Glossop North End Juniors.

In the girls category, Buxton Juniors were the overall winners, with Padfield second and Buxworth third.

In the small schools category, Padfield came first, with All Saints and St Margarets finishing second and St George's third.

Padfield school said on Facebook: "I am very proud to say that the girls’ team came second in the High Peak and the boys’ team came first out of the small schools in the High Peak!

"This is a super achievement and I must thank Mrs Windsor and Mr Bradstock for their commitment to inspiring and supporting the children in so many sporting events. Well done to all concerned!"

Organisers said the standard across all matches was great and thanked Glossopdale School for hosting, the Glossop North End Leadership Academy leaders for all their hard work and to Jon Matthews for his organisation before and on the day.

The winners will now represent the High Peak in the Derbyshire county finals later this month.
