Robins ravaged by Radcliffe

BetVictor Premier Division: Ashton United 0-3 Radcliffe

Visitors Radcliffe ran up their sixth successive win against an Ashton side playing for the first time since Jody Banim’s departure. Curtis Obeng was back at right back for the Robins and the first half looked set to end goalless until the visitors took the lead in controversial circumstances as a long ball saw Liam Ellis challenge goalkeeper Jon Worsnop who thus dropped the ball allowing Ellis to sweep home. Earlier Nicky Clee had cleared Matthew Crothers shot off the line following a cross from Kingsley Williams and a corner saw Richard Smith’s header just scrambled narrowly wide of the far post. Just before the goal Radcliffe had threatened on the break as Crothers was played in by Swaby-Neavin with Worsnop needing to be out quickly to block.

The outcome was soon decided as within a minute of the restart a great break from their own half saw Ellis’s inside pass fired home confidently by Tyrese Sinclair and 8 minutes later another fine move through midfield saw Warren Tyrell’s cross converted close in by the same player.

Ben Wharton turned and fired over and Sinclair hit the side netting and Luca Havern cleared  Wharton’s shot off the line after Crothers had robbed Clee and the Robins’ best effort saw Jordan Slew firing just wide on his left foot and Josh Wilson glanced Sheridan’s corner past the far post. Slew then hit Steven Tames’ pass straight at Oliver Martin and Ellis fired over from the angle having collected Mitchley’s lay off. The final action saw Sinclair’s hat trick attempt go wide after Liam Tomsett had lost the ball.
