Oldham Mountain Rescue Team comes to aid of walkers lost near Featherbed Moss

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Greater Manchester Police who had received an emergency call from a group of four walkers who had lost their way due to low clouds.

The group were walking from Marsden to Hadfield and had become disorientated in the low cloud near Featherbed Moss.

Team members were dispatched to Chew Reservoir at Greenfield in one of their  Land Rovers where they then made their way on foot across the moor to the last position of the mobile phone signal.

The group of four were quickly located near Featherbed Moss trig point. After checking them over and providing another layer of warm clothing, the group walked off the hill to the Team’s waiting vehicles.

While waiting for help, they had become cold, so the Team took them back to their  warm base where hot drinks and food were provided. Further checks were made by the Team’s  Casualty Carers to ensure they had warmed up before allowing them to complete their journey, this time in a warm car.

Fifteen Team members were involved for 2.5 hours.
