Fourteen members of Oldham's heroes of the hills spent more than two hours assisting and treating a man who had fallen and sustained a serious ankle injury on Sunday (29 May).

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team had just packed kit away from a monthly exercise when they received a request from North West Ambulance Service  asking for assistance with the treatment and evacuation of a male who had fallen while bouldering at Wimberry Boulders, Dovestones.

OMRT leader Rob Tortoishell said: “We were soon on scene and able to assess and administer pain relief to the casualty, along with a check of his companions, who were given extra clothing to keep them warm.

"After some further treatment, our Casualty Carers were able to splint the ankle before packaging the casualty in the vacuum mattress and stretcher. The casualty was then carried down the hill to the waiting ambulance for onward transport to hospital.

"Thanks to the NWAS paramedics for their support, and to the Greater Manchester Police officer for his help carrying kit down."
