Man bailed after being quizzed by police as boy, 15, dies following road collision

Police are appealing for information following a fatal collision in Oldham.

At around 8.10pm on May 21, officers were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Rochdale Road, Oldham.

A black Seat Ibiza travelling northbound along the road collided with a pedestrian – a 15-year-old boy. The boy died in hospital the following day.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving; he has since been released on bail.

Police Constable Thomas Johnson, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “This is a tragic incident which has seen a child sadly lose his life, and all of our thoughts are with his family at this awful time.

“Specially trained officers are supporting the family through every step of the process, and we will keep them updated as and when any information becomes available.

“While we have made an arrest, we are continuing to ask for information as we progress our investigation – if you have anything that you think could help, or witnessed anything, please do get in touch. This includes any relevant dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage.”

You can contact police via 101, or directly call SCIU on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident number 3394 of 21/05/24.
