The first sports event for children on a threatened green space in Hadfield has been hailed a resounding success.

Around a dozen young people attended the Peak Active Sports session, which are being held on Saturday mornings for the next few weeks.

The first hour saw some great football action followed by a break for hot chocolate and fresh fruit snacks, kindly donated by Tesco Express in Hadfield).

Then it was back for cricket and the ever popular dodgeball.

Everyone who took part said they really enjoyed themselves and will be back again this week.

Padfield borough councillor Ollie Cross has sponsored the sports sessions from his Councillors' Initiative Fund.

Organisers said: "We are aware that there were a few teething problems with sorting out the bookings and confirming slots - please forgive us , we were inundated with requests and being the first time we have done something like this it got a bit hectic! Moving forward, please put your name down on the event as GOING and when we reach 20 names, we will start a waiting list.

"PAS will do the necessary forms for your child to take part when you come along. We have scope for separate age groups and would particularly welcome participants from year 7 upwards. It would be a great help if teachers and those involved in our schools especially secondary level could pass on the information for us.

"We are a voluntary group so anything you can do to help us spread the word without incurring costs is an enormous help.

“Remember, the success of events such as these give us more proof that Roughfields is a vital accessible amenity greenspace for local people so please keep supporting us."

The PAS sessions are being held on Roughfields for six weeks from 10am until midday.

You can book a place on the Save Roughfields Facebook page
