Vigil for Gaza takes place in Glossop town centre

Members of High Peak Stand Up to Racism and Glossop Peace Group took part in a vigil for Gaza on the High Street on Wednesday for the 25th consecutive week.

"We are calling for a permanent ceasefire and an end to the slaughter of innocent civilians, the majority of whom are women and children," said Cath Hughes from Hayfield, one of the people who took part in the vigil.

She added: "All hostages should be released including the thousands of Palestinians who have been taken prisoner in the West Bank since October, and humanitarian aid needs to be rushed to the people who are now dying of starvation in a man-made famine in Northern Gaza."

Next week the group will not be holding their usual Wednesday vigil, but will instead hold a protest gathering in Norfolk Square on Saturday morning, May 4, where they hope to be joined by members of Tameside Palestinian Solidarity Campaign.
