What's on in the new season at Spring Bank Arts in New Mills

Spring Bank Arts in New Mills

Folk music, coffee concerts by members of the Hallé and a satirical sketch show are among the highlights for audiences at Spring Bank Arts in New Mills this spring.

Innovative folk duo Steel Rhyme made up of singer and multi-instrumentalist Luke Carver Goss and percussion wizard Gary Hammond are to perform on Friday 3 March.

They will be performing both traditional and original songs with lyrics drawn from the medieval period to contemporary Ian McMillan and beyond.

The quick-fire satirical sketch show, From Here to Absurdity, is heading to New Mills as part of its current “post-pandemic, pre-apocalypse” tour on Sunday 26 March.

Written and performed by Richard Kelly, Ashley Hern and Lucy Simons From Here to Absurdity comprises 90 minutes of original comedy sketches.

In April Scott Brothers Duo are set to entertain audiences with their piano duet concert. Their programme will feature original works as well as well-known classics.

Jonathan and Tom Scott last performed at a sell-out event in New Mills in 2017 and this promises to be another fun-filled evening on Sunday 22 April.

Their programme of virtuosic piano duo music will again be enhanced feature a big screen hooked up to a camera so the audience can see the complexities of four hands on one piano keyboard.

The popular Sunday Coffee Concert Series with members of the Hallé is also returning to Spring Bank Arts this Spring.

The series will welcome principal oboist Stéphane Rancourt, and principal flautist Amy Yule in the first concert on 19 March with colleagues Marie Schreer (violin), Chris Emerson (viola) and Dale Culliford (cello).

On 23 April as part of the piano weekend, Dvorak’s much-loved piano quintet in A Major will be performed, and on 2 July, the venue will welcome the new leader of the Hallé, Roberto Ruisi, performing with principal cellist Nick Trygstad and colleagues in a concert of string quintets.

Tickets are available from Spring Bank Arts, Monday to Friday 9:30am-12:30pm on 01663 308202, and online www.wegottickets.com/springbankarts
