Whaley Bridge Neighbourhood Plan to be submitted in September

Efforts to create a Neighbourhood Plan for Whaley Bridge are moving forward.

Work is under way to update the draft policy, which will be ready to submit to High Peak Borough Council in September.

It is being updated to consider the comments from residents as well as local businesses, community groups and statutory bodies including Derbyshire County Council and High Peak Borough Council.

When it is submitted, checks will be carried to ensure the correct procedures have been followed and the required documents have been submitted. HPBC will then arrange for an independent examiner to check that the plan meets the basic conditions.

If the plan passes the tests, then a public referendum will be held. If more than 50 per cent of the voters are in favour of the plan, the local authority must bring it into force.

This means that future planning decisions into any proposed developments must take into account the Neighbourhood Plan.
