Thieves target children's park in Charlesworth

CRIME SCENE: What's left of the climbing frame without the metal bars which children used to grab and swing across.

Charlesworth Parish Council say they are sad and disappointed after thieves struck in a children's play park.

It comes after metal bars were stolen from a climbing frame on the village green recreation ground, putting the popular piece of equipment out of action.

The theft has only just been discovered but it may have happened up to two months ago.

It’s believed metal thieves were responsible.

The council, who are responsible for the park and the upkeep of the equipment, has stated: “We are saddened and disappointed to find that someone has stooped to the level of stealing play equipment that’s there for the enjoyment of the children.

“The theft is now a police matter, but we want to make people aware and to keep an eye on their own local parks in and around Glossop.”

The parish council is asking anyone who may have information on the theft to contact them or the police.

Members of the council are now looking into options to replace the metal bars, but this could take some time, because, for health and safety reasons, the work must be carried out to a high standard.
