Students set to receive A-level and GCSE results

Thousands of students across Derbyshire are preparing to receive their A-level and GCSE results.

On Tuesday 10 August, students who were due to sit A-levels this summer will receive a grade for each subject which, due to the cancelled exams, is based on a range of evidence completed as part of the course.

Those who were due to sit GCSE exams will receive their grades two days later on Thursday 12 August.

Councillor Alex Dale, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Young People, said: “I’d like to wish all our students who will soon receive their A-level or GCSE results the very best of luck.

“It has been a difficult year for all students, their families and school staff, so I’d also like to thank everyone involved. Our schools and their pupils have worked very hard in extremely difficult circumstances and deserve praise for the way they’ve kept going through thick and thin.

“I’d like to wish our students all the best for the future. There’s plenty of advice and support on offer for all students from their school or college as they consider their next steps.”

This year, because of the pandemic, the government decided that the Summer 2021 examination series could not go ahead as planned. Instead grades have been determined based upon a range of evidence verified by the school or college and examination boards. The process for deciding a student’s grade was set by Ofqual, the government’s body for regulating exams.

Support and guidance services for young people include:

There will be an appeals system as a safety net to fix any genuine errors that were not identified earlier on in the process. Students unhappy with their results should check with their school or college for more information.

Unlike previous years, the county council says it will not be receiving individual grades from schools this year.
