Speeding drivers caught during police operation

Almost 1,000 drivers were caught speeding across Derbyshire during a dedicated police operation.

During Road Safety Week recently, Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa joined teams across the county targeting speeding vehicles under Operation Brake.

In total, just under 1,000 offenders were identified during the week and police say they are being dealt with.

PCC Dhindsa said: "I’d like to say a big thank you to Derbyshire Police’s Roads Policing unit, Derbyshire Crest and officers from all SNT’s across the county. They all played a massive part during the week.

"The week isn’t about fining people who have just slightly broke the speed limit, and neither is it a money-making scheme. It is about raising awareness of the speed limits and the dangers of driving too fast.

"Speeding is the number one policing concern of communities across Derbyshire and Road Safety Week is a week in which we can all take a critical look at how we drive.

"As the weather gets colder the roads will become more dangerous. Be mindful, slow it down, and help reduce the unfortunate number of avoidable injuries and deaths on our roads."
