New Mills Festival artwork has a new local home

Artwork which was on display during this year's New Mills Festival has found a new permanent and local home.

Artist Alison Vasey was delighted to gift her work 'Sherbert skies towards Swizzels' - along with the other artists' images - to Watford House Care Home in New Mills.

The paintings depicting New Mills and Bolton were exhibited together at both locations' railway stations to celebrate the place's connections.

New Mills Festival organisers had been keen to find a legacy in the town for the art collection.

Manager Carinna Mycock says she is thrilled to receive the work for the home's garden.

"This secure outside space is so important to us," she said.

"People just love to spend time here and this artwork brings a lovely new focus. We've good links here in New Mills with the schools and community groups and we're always looking to be more involved.

"We want people to understand what we do here because that helps normalise our place within the community."

The gardens at Watford House are having a spring renovation next year and the artwork will take pride of place for all to enjoy.

Artists involved are Alison Vasey, Clare Allan, David Lowther, Phil Porter and Richard Hall.
