Local Punk Blues group to play in Old Glossop and New Mills

Shake Rag are a four-piece Punk Blues group from Glossop and Broadbottom with an original songbook that draws on influences from the best of Blues, Rockabilly, 60’s Garage, and punk.

Shake Rag was formed in April 2021 and have been regularly gigging since September 2021 in pubs and music venues.

The band consists of Richard J. Moses (Vocals, Second guitar), Garry L. Parvin (First Guitar), Heath Evdemon (Bass) and Phil Chapman (Drums).

Shake Rag will be playing at The Queen Arms in Old Glossop on Saturday 11 June at 9pm and then the New Mills One World Festival on 2 July.

Lead singer Richard said: "Things used to be a lot better for music lovers. You used to have festivals, and big gigs in big venues, but there was always a local band playing for free in a nearby pub that you could go along to if you wanted to. Sometimes you knew what you were getting, sometimes not. Usually, they were some kind of rock n roll group – as in, a bit lively.

"Me and Gazza [Garry Parvin] used to talk about this, it used to annoy us, then we thought if no one’s doing it perhaps we should. It’s true that COVID hasn’t helped, but the malaise set in way before that."

Shake Rag played live for the first time at Glossop Labour Club in September 2021 and have been gigging solidly since then, mostly in the Manchester and Glossop area, but heading out to the wilds of Sheffield and even Essex where they packed out Chelmsford’s HOTBOX.

Richard added: "We’ve done some quite big shows but what we like best is when you turn up at a local pub, not knowing who’s going to be there, set up, play your set and then have a beer afterwards and people come up and tell you how much they liked it.

"It’s that unknown element, and the buzz you get when it’s good. It’s the same feelings whether you’re in the band or in the audience. That’s what we’re about. Rock N Roll for the people."

Shake Rag announced their This Location Got No Station Tour at the start of 2022. They’ve played 10 gigs already and more will be added throughout the year. You can follow the band on Facebook, Instagram (@shake__rag) and SoundCloud
