The sunny weather saw a steep rise in calls for help from volunteers with our local mountain rescue teams last week.

A climber needed help from Edale MRT on Friday night (25 March) after suffering significant injuries when falling seven metres.

They were treated at the scene for a broken leg and suspected pelvic injury, before stretchered to a waiting ambulance and on to Sheffield Northern General Hospital for further treatment.

On Saturday (26 March), Buxton and Edale MRT were called to Mam Tor to assist a paraglider, who had landed heavily and resulted in a serious ankle injury.

Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service provided pain relief and treated the casualty alongside team members, before they were carried to the ambulance and taken to hospital.

As the teams were cleaning their equipment before leaving, they helped a walker on the Mam Tor path who was unwell.

Edale's team were later called to an incident on Millstone Edge in which a rock climber had injured their back.

As the team doctor was assisting, a rock fell and hit him on the head. Fortunately, he was wearing a team helmet.

On Saturday night, Glossop MRT, who were taking part in a monthly training exercise, were called to help a family who had become very tired and needed help on Bleaklow.

The team were able to locate the family and provided them with warm jackets. They escorted them off the hill back to their vehicle in Glossop.

On Sunday morning (27 March), the team were called to help a walker who was in severe pain after falling on the Pennine Way above Torside Clough.

The injured walker was given pain relief and carried on a stretcher to the team vehicles. They were taken to hospital for further treatment.
