Laptops now available from Zink for Derbyshire refugees

Stacey Hawtin from Deloitte hands over the laptops to Paul Bohan, CEO at Zink.

As part of its pledge to donate over 6,000 reconditioned laptops, professional services firm Deloitte has provided High Peak charity Zink with laptops for Ukrainian families who are moving into the area.

The laptops will be used to enable children and students to continue lessons, adults to work or seek work and families to keep in touch with each other.

Paul Bohan, CEO at Zink, said: "We were overwhelmed by the generosity of Deloitte in providing these laptops. The first ten were gratefully received by families who have arrived in the area.”

So far the laptops have enabled children to keep in touch with fathers, teachers and classmates back home and for refugees to apply for jobs and learn English.

Richard Houston, CEO at Deloitte UK, said: “So many people want to do what they can to support the thousands fleeing the war in Ukraine and small actions can make a difference. We hope the donated laptops will help families stay connected with loved ones, support access to education and employment and connect to communities in the UK and elsewhere.”

Zink, which runs High Peak Foodbank and a Community Eco-Café, also employs work coaches who are supporting Ukrainian guests into work or to become self employed.

Local organisations like High Peak Homes for Ukraine, Buxton Friends of Ukraine and Hope Valley Sanctuary are providing support for families who have moved into the area and referring to Zink services.

Requests for laptops should be made by email to the nearest pick-up point to the refugee's temporary home:

stating the reason their guest/s need one and confirming they don’t already own a laptop. Proof of refugee status will be requested.
