Human Rights vigil in Glossop town centre

Saturday (10 December) was the International Day of Human Rights, so members of High Peak Stand Up to Racism marked the occasion by gathering in Norfolk Square to express their solidarity with the people of Iran who are so bravely protesting for their human rights.

"It is important that we protect our rights here in the UK too," said Gill Scott, a spokesperson for the group.

"The Government wants to replace the Human Rights Act with a Bill of Rights, which would actually take away many of the rights we take for granted.

"We are part of a coalition of 250 charities, trade unions and human rights groups which strongly oppose this dangerous plan."
