Last week the council's new executive met for the first time. We had a packed agenda, including developing the new borough plan, assigning executive portfolios and developing the member champion roles.
The new borough plan will convert our political priorities from the election leaflets you may have seen into the aims and objectives that Council will seek to address over the next four years.
That process won't just involve members of the controlling Labour group but will seek to involve all members of the Council to try and ensure that the the council will be responding to those issues that matter locally.
The Borough plan also needs to ensure we have contingencies for the unexpected. We have certainly had our fair share over recent years, from the Toddbrook Reservoir incident to the pandemic.
One such unexpected issue has been the cost-of-living crisis, which has affected so many residents across High Peak and continues to do so. Last October, the Government's mini-budget crashed our economy, and we are all still paying the price for it.
With interest rates being put up again last week, we know thousands of people will be worried about what it will mean for their mortgages, with many facing increases of thousands of pounds on their annual mortgage's repayments.
Labour leader Keir Starmer has challenged all councils to do everything they can to support people during this cost-of-living crisis.
As a council, we've already backed several measures to help tackle the cost of living crisis, from supporting the development of the High Peak Fuel Bank, which looks to work with partner organisations to supporting people on prepayment meters.
We are also continuing to work on how we can support local residents to improve their homes' energy efficiency via the often complicated range of limited government funding available.
