Just weeks after Natwest closed the doors on its branches in Glossop and Buxton, Lloyds has announced it is to close its branch in New Mills.

The decision to close the town’s last bank comes following a review. The branch will close on 17 August and the cashpoint will be removed.

The nearest alternative branch for Lloyds customers to use is at 2 High Street East in Glossop. They will also be able to use local post offices to take out cash, check their balance or make a deposit.

The move means there are just five branches left in the High Peak with Halifax, Nationwide, TSB and The Nottinghamshire operating branches in Buxton.

Explaining the decision, the banking firm they have seen people using their branches less frequently and more are choosing to do most of their banking online.

High Peak’s MP Robert Largan said: “There has been a long running trend of high street bank branch closures and I am disappointed that Lloyds Bank have chosen to close their New Mills branch.

“Having been in contact with Lloyds, I am pleased to confirm that they have agreed to help existing customers with their arrangements, including providing a community banker for the area for some time following the closure.

“I urge Lloyds Bank to stick to the commitments they have made and to provide all possible support to their customers who rely on face-to-face banking.”

Mr Largan said he was pleased to confirm that none of the branch staff will be made redundant. All have had offers made to them to move them to alternative branches.
