Thursday (3 March) was World Book Day and pupils across the High Peak enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book characters.
At Hadfield Infant School, prizes were given out for the best costumes in each class.
Leanne De Vega-Oldham, English Lead at the Mersey Bank Road school, told the Chronicle: "Books are very important and World Book Day encourages more children to read. As a school we’ve had a real push to urge children to read more.
"I’ve set up a club within school called Team Read and the children are awarded badges for certain things such as reading a book spontaneously. We recruit pupils who are keen on reading to Team Read and they encourage more children to join the club."
Leanne added: "We’ve also set up a staff reading area and swap books. If the children see us reading it encourages them to follow suit. We live in a society where children are drawn to electronics, so it's important they learn the importance of books. It’s also vital parents read to their children as books fuel the imagination."
