A Hadfield care home is celebrating after winning three prestigious healthcare awards.

The Cristal awards recognise and celebrate the personal, innovative and dedicated work which benefits people receiving care across Tameside and Glossop from an independent provider.

The awards have been handed out at a virtual presentation ceremony. Willow Bank has won three of them. 

Cook Rosie Proudman was given the ‘Inspirational and Innovative Practice’ Award; handyman Daniel Chadderton received the ‘Achievement in the Workplace’ accolade and domestic worker Melanie Piper won ‘Shining Star’.

The home looks after 18 residents, some of whom suffer from dementia.

Willow Bank manager Sarah White said: “Our reputation is very important to us. 

“We already have the ‘Outstanding’ rating from the CQC, so to win these awards as well is amazing.

“Our staff are all fantastic. Rosie joined us as a cook, but she has gone above and beyond that role. 

“During lockdown she took over the church services in the home so she looks after everyone’s spiritual and religious needs. 

“She also holds regular concerts here as she is a multi-instrumentalist.”

Deputy manager Ann Marie Coggin added: “Mel used to be a carer, but she stepped down to work on housekeeping. 

“She really can turn her hand to anything. She’s known here as ‘Mother Hen’ as she looks after our chickens which hatched on Easter Sunday. 

“Dan used to suffer from anxiety and joined us as a volunteer. He’s now our  handyman. But he also has a great local knowledge and works with the residents as well.”

Sarah and Ann Marie want to thank all the staff, relatives and health professionals who nominated them for the awards and hope next year they can have a big party, free of Covid restrictions.
