Glossop Fire Station’s Open Day proved a fun, informative day out all the family last Thursday, despite the weather.

Numerous groups joined forces for the event including Glossop Mountain Rescue and Derbyshire police cadets. Both services offered free
safety information and guidance on topics such as water safety and staying safe during the summer months.

The mountain rescue team even offered free stretcher rides for those who wanted one.

Children could clamber aboard the fire engines and even dress the part, while there were also stalls with sweets and popcorn available, plus face painting.

Despite the typical British weather, everyone remained in high spirits with the firefighters providing some impressive displays, including a kitchen fire safety demonstration, revealing just how quickly a fire can occur and spread and what to do in such a situation. Crew manager Jake Bradbury said: “The main reason for the event is to engage with our local community and help them understand how they can prevent emergencies from
happening and we’re also here to promote the careers available in the fire service.”

There was also a raffle and overall £200 was raised for the Fire Fighters Charity.
