From Millworkers to Millennials: Glossop artist's exhibition at Manchester's Central Library

Glossop artist Jean Hobson's exhibition of new paintings, drawings and screen prints opens on Friday at Manchester's Central Library in St Peter's Square.

She was inspired by the extraordinary changes that have seen old buildings replaced or repurposed and celebrates the dramatic transformation of the City’s skyline.

The original millworkers’ homes have become a geometric landscape of glittering tower blocks with the workers’ old ale houses have been converted into craft gin bars and eateries.

Jean said: “I decided to highlight this by putting contemporary photographs next to the drawings or paintings of the buildings which have vanished.

“New versus old. But I have left some out so that people can guess where they were!”

The exhibition runs from 14 October until 17 December. For more about Jean’s work go to www.jeanhobson.com
