Extra funding to tackle anti-social behaviour

High Peak is set to benefit after Derbyshire was awarded £4.4 million to target anti-social behaviour.

As part of a national action plan to tackle ASB, Derbyshire is one of four police areas to receive extra funding for both ‘hot spot’ police and enforcement patrols, alongside a new ‘immediate justice’ scheme designed to deliver swift and visible punishments.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) will use the funding, to be given over the next two years, to strengthen enforcement work and to ensure anti-social behaviour perpetrators repair the damage they inflict on victims and communities.

The OPCC will be working with partners to design a Derbyshire-specific approach to delivering the Action Plan.

It will establish a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of anti-social behaviour and give the police and local authorities the tools they need to tackle the problem.

High Peak’s MP Robert Largan, welcoming the funding, said: “I am particularly pleased that Derbyshire will be one of the hotspot trailblazer areas.

“This will mean an increase in visible policing. Crucially offenders will be made to repair the damage they cause or visibly support the local community in other ways.”

He added: “The Anti-Social Behaviour Action Plan will also give police and local authorities more tools to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour - expanding drug testing on arrest, banning nitrous oxide and increasing on the spot fines for offences such as graffiti or fly-tipping.”
