Combs Reservoir scoops top award

For the first time, Combs Reservoir has received the prestigious Green Flag Award.

It comes after the Canal and River Trust teamed up with the Chair of Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Footpaths Group, Chris Sizeland, and High Peak Borough Councillor Kath Sizeland.

They have been working on a rolling programme of work, already well under way, to improve and enhance the area.

The reservoir sits between Chapel-en-le-Frith and Buxton.

Chris said: “I would like to thank all the local volunteers and organisations that have donated their time and energy and continue to do so on this ongoing project.”

Kath added: “There is much more to, but this has really spurred us on. The Canal Trust also received special ‘heritage’ awards for various other sites on the Peak Forest and Macclesfield Canals.

“They are great people to work with. It was also a lovely experience to discover how other award winners had transformed their area.”

The award was presented at a ceremony held at Doncaster Racecourse, which was compered by BBC presenter David Guest.

The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces.
