Campaigners to hold 'Stop Jackdaw' protest in Glossop

'Stop Jackdaw' will be the demand of members of High Peak Green New Deal and Women's Strike for Climate, who will be taking part in a nationwide day of action against a new gas field.

On 1 June this year, Britain's regulator approved Shell's (SHEL.L) revised plan to develop a North Sea natural gas field.

Environmental group Greenpeace is taking legal action against the government, arguing it has failed in its legal duty to check the environmental impacts of Shell's Jackdaw project by refusing to consider the damage caused by burning the gas extracted.

Business minister Kwasi Kwarteng has previously said the country must "source more of the gas we need from British waters to protect energy security" as the government seeks to boost domestic energy output following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On Saturday (27 August), campaigners in Glossop will gather outside the Esso petrol station on High Street East at 11am, and then in Norfolk Square at 11.30am.
