The bosses of a High Peak GP surgery placed in special measures following an unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission have vowed to put things right.
The Elmwood Medical Centre in Buxton, managed by GTD Healthcare since April 2020, was rated as inadequate and will be inspected again in six months.
GTD Healthcare Chief Executive, David Beckett, in a newsletter to patients said: “This rating is without doubt hugely disappointing not only for the immediate team who works at the practice, but also the wider teams across the organisation who provide considerable additional support in areas such as operational, clinical and leadership.
“I would like to reassure you that we are determined to put things right and are confident that the improvements that are already well underway will have a positive impact on patient experience. The areas that have been highlighted in the report will be rectified as soon as possible.
“An action plan has been developed and we are working towards significant changes being implemented by the end of March.”
The report by the CQC rated the practice as inadequate for providing a safe and well-led service, requires improvement for providing an effective and responsive service and good for providing a caring service. Their previous inspection in 2018 had seen the practice rated as good.
High Peak MP Robert Largan said he was concerned about the finding of the latest inspection.
He said: “I have since met with the practice to discuss CQC’s report and to find out what steps they will be taking to improve the care they provide. I will continue working with the local NHS to drive up standards in High Peak and improve patient safety.”
