Appeal to find cat missing in Glossop

Boyle, the missing cat.

A couple are appealing for the public’s help to find their cat, which went missing in Glossop.

On Friday (29 October), Ian Critchley and Catherine Lowe were involved in a collision at the traffic lights next to Tesco on High Street West in Glossop. They were returning home to Sheffield after visiting relatives in Manchester.

Their cat, five-year-old Boyle, had managed to get out of his carrier which the couple hadn’t noticed.

When they opened their car doors to talk to the woman who had driven into the back of them, Boyle escaped and ran across to Queen Street and into hiding.

The couple are from Sheffield, so he doesn’t know the Glossop area and is, naturally, very frightened.

Since then they’ve spent every night outside this area, sleeping in the car, and being helped with the incredible kindness of the residents on the street.

Ian said: “Every person there has been amazing, offering food, drinks, blankets, use of facilities, etc. We can’t even begin to express how grateful we are for the amazing support this community has shown us.

“The first night we did see Boyle a few times in gardens and grassy areas, but as he is completely startled, he has been running even from us.

“The second night we didn’t see him, and the advice we’ve had from an expert of cats who have escaped into unfamiliar areas is that he’ll now have gone into ‘survival mode’ where he’ll be in hiding until his hunger overwhelms his need to hide.”

Actively searching for his hiding place by a stranger could potentially lead to him feeling exposed and fleeing even further.

If you do see him, please contact Catherine on 07795260346 and don’t try to grab him as he will just flee.

If you do have any cat food/treats and want to try to entice him/befriend him after you’ve spotted him that would be great, it just needs to be on his terms, so he doesn’t feel threatened.
