REVIEW: Sister Act at Palace Theatre Manchester

All of your prayers have been answered as the brand new production of the award-winning musical Sister Act arrives in Manchester!

This irresistible revival of the 1992 film of the same name is a must-see for audiences everywhere, filled with powerful gospel music, high-energy dances and themes of acceptance & sisterhood.

The story follows disco diva Deloris Van Cartier (Landi Oshinowo) who is put into protective custody in a convent after witnessing her gangster boyfriend murder one of his crew.

Encouraged to improve the struggling choir, she helps her fellow sisters find their true voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

We were blown away by the performances from the cast - with heartening moments from each and every one of them throughout the show.

The irrepressible sass and humour Landi brought to the role was absolutely perfect. The comedic timing as she delivered her witty one-liners was spot on and, paired with her exceptional vocal ability and magnetic stage presence, the standing ovation she received as she took her bow was more than warranted.

Alfie Parker's portrayal of Eddie Souther, a police officer and Deloris' childhood friend, truly brought the house down. He brought such a sincere energy to the character, making the audience genuinely root for his happy ending. I adored Eddie's endearing attempts at being "cool" during "I Could Be That Guy" and his lightning-fast costume changes were excellent.

Young Mary Robert was played by Eloise Runnette, who flawlessly captured the innocence and vulnerability of the character. Whether she was singing solo or as part of the ensemble, Eloise's sheer talent and passion for performing shone through.

Menken's Motown-inspired score didn't disappoint and we left the theatre still humming along to the final reprise of "Raise Your Voice".

We swayed, we sang and we laughed hysterically. I will absolutely be recommending this show to anyone who will listen for the foreseeable future.

If you're on the lookout for a feel-good, vibrant, fun show look no further than Sister Act. Further ticket information can be found here: https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/sister-act/palace-theatre-manchester/.
