Sing For Peace event raises £100 for World Peace charity

A group of willing singers gathered together in the Victoria Hall in Glossop on Sunday to join in with songs and to send wishes for peace around the world.

“18 people came along,” said Penny Wilson, who ran the session. “The songs were to encourage peace and strength in our own hearts to help us in these challenging times, as well as thinking of the world situation and wanting things to resolve and the violence to cease. One of the songs: ‘This is my Prayer for Peace’ by Nick Prater, featured the word for peace in both Hebrew (Shalom) and Arabic (Salaam), which come from the same linguistic root.”

The session raised £120 for the charity ‘The World Peace Flame’. This worldwide organisation produces peace education packs for use in schools, as well as helping some of the poorest people in India.

“I would definitely like to run a similar session again,” Penny said, “I think we all came away from it feeling calmer and more united in our call for peace.”

The Victoria Hall was a perfect venue for the singing, with plenty of space to move around and excellent acoustics. Penny added: “The Management of the Hall very kindly waived their fee so that all the money raised, bar minor expenses, could go to the charity."
